Yesterday I disengaged from reviewing those engrossing Brain and Behaviour lectures for the fifth time and left for a stroll in Burnaby’s beautiful Central Park. My first surprise was the sunshine and the foreign feeling of warmth. But my greatest excitement came from finding in the park a frenzy of life. Amid the exploding flora, Mallard ducklings abounded (I didn’t see any American Widgeons or, my favourites, Hooded Merganser ducklings), minnows swam in groups a thousand strong, and even massive carps dared to surface.
Nearing the end of second year drudgery, in NGD, it is refreshing to see life happen outside of the textbooks and actually normal, non-pathologic children being strolled along the park. No ambiguous genitalia, no FAS, no corpus callosum agenesis!
In celebration of spring and in an attempt to satisfy my desire to paint with plastic I made this piece with ziploc bags, pickle brine and an industrial heat gun. It is abstract yet perhaps reminiscent of flower petals, pistils, or perhaps DNA…
